A United Kingdom

If there's one thing I can say regarding the people this movie is about, they were strong, strong people!  It's also another one of those films that saddens me slightly when you see how awful human beings can be to each other.

Guy meets girl, they fall in love.  She's a white English girl, he is an African King.  It's the 1940's and as you can imagine no one is happy about it.  What really amazed me was, instead of seeing it as an opportunity to unite two countries, everyone was doing everything to try and keep them apart.  Unsurprisingly, there are diamonds involved.  They are apart for so long, and it was all government and politics that caused it.

It's quite heart warming that actually in the end, the people in his country accept her as their "queen" and they make it through all those obstacles to be together.  Love like that is rare.

I've had a few days to digest this one.  The biggest question when we sat down to watch was "So, you think she's a spy or not?"  My friend immediately answers with, "Na, she won't be", so I countered with "Well, if you're going no, I'm going yes!"

On with the film.  It's a tough one, it has to be said, could have gone either way right up until the reveal.  I mean I was convinced she was, until they started giving reasons against, like him being up for a promotion and being "tested".  So, I swayed back and forth throughout, which is good as sometimes these films can be a little too obvious!

Anyway turns out she is, and she ends up killing herself in order to save her husband from having to kill her or getting himself arrested and probably killed in the process.
